Adam A. Brunson, MD, a Florida native, completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the University of South Florida, where he graduated summa cum laude and was in the Honors Program. He also attended medical school at USF where he received the Ina J. Douglas award for outstanding academic achievement and the Southern Medical Association Scholarship. He completed his residency in June 2001 at the USF/Morton Plant Mease Family Practice program where he served as chief resident during his final year. He then completed a Sports Medicine Fellowship at Bayfront Medical Center, receiving a Certificate of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine. Dr. Brunson is recognized as one of the Best Doctors in America having been named in 2007 – 2008, 2008 – 2009 and 2009 – 2010.
Dr. Brunson currently holds academic appointments as an Assistant Clinical Professor with the Department of Family Medicine at the University of South Florida and Clinical Faculty with the Family Practice Residency Program, Morton Plant Mease Healthcare. He has been recognized for his teaching accomplishments by being named the Volunteer Florida Family Physician Educator by the American Academy of Family Physicians, Florida Chapter and receiving the Community Preceptor of the Year Award from the University of South Florida Department of Family Medicine. Dr. Brunson also received the Pfizer Teacher Development Award from the American Academy of Family Physicians Foundation.
Dr. Brunson is a board-certified professional ringside physician providing medical coverage for professional boxing and mixed martial arts events. His most notable fight assignments include Jones vs. Tarver 3; Lacy vs. Reid; Wright vs. Quartey; Dawson vs. Johnson 1; and UFC Fight Night 17. He currently serves as the team physician for the Clearwater Christian College sports program.
Dr. Brunson has also served as a team physician and provided medical coverage for a variety of local sports teams including The Tampa Bay Storm; The Tampa Bay Devil Rays; USF Bulls football, basketball, soccer and volleyball; Eckerd College baseball, basketball, soccer and volleyball; St. Anthony’s Triathlon; St. Petersburg Parrots, minor league hockey team; Tampa Bay Terminators, professional women’s football team; Boca Ciega High School football and the Powerboat races.
Dr. Brunson is actively involved in the community as a coach for St. Pete Raiders girls’ recreational soccer. He also volunteers his medical expertise in the community by participating in free community sports physical events and providing medical coverage for events such as the Feathersound playground installation and local concerts.
Lindsay Summer, ARNP was born and raised in St. Petersburg, prior to attending the University of Florida where she was a student athlete. She graduated from UF with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering then attended the University of North Florida where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit before earning her Master of Science degree in nursing from the University of South Florida. She is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and a member of Sigma Theta Tau, the international nursing honor society. Away from the office she remains active in the community through volunteerism with the Junior League of St. Petersburg.
Melissa James, ARNP, a Florida native, graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing, magna cum laude. She worked as a registered nurse in the Emergency Department prior to earning her Master of Science degree in nursing from the University of South Florida. She is a certified Family Nurse Practitioner through the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and a member of the Golden Key Honor Society and Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society, the international nursing honor society.
